Abstract: Cavity quantum electrodynamics (cavity QED) explores fundamental physics of photon-atom interactions and is useful for a variety of applications in quantum electronics. I will present our experimental studies of multi-atom cavity QED and its interplay with electromagnetically induced transparency, and discuss related applications in nonlinear optics at low light intensities, quantum state manipulation, light control light, and quantum interface of photons and atoms.

Research Interests:

- Light Manipulation of Neutral Atoms: cooling and trapping of neutral atoms, atom optics with tailored optical beams, and laser spectroscopic applications of trapped cold atoms.
- Laser Induced Atomic Coherence: nonlinear optics with cold atoms, coherence induced interference in atomic excitation and decay, and cavity-enhanced nonlinear optics.
